    • Agnieszka Ptak: In 2024, in cooperation with the Falkiewicz Specialist Hospital in Wrocław, the Children’s Specialists Foundation and the Polish Olympians Academy of Physical Education in Wrocław and under the auspices of the Therapy For All People in All Situations -TAPAS Association, studies were conducted to assess the well-being of parents of children born with multi-organ immaturity, developmental or genetic defects. These studies were conducted as a project accompanying the Health Policy Program called “Od-Żyj”.The project aims to assess the actual needs in the field of perinatal difficulties related to the difficulties diagnosed in babies. To provide parents with reliable knowledge in the studied area and to assess the degree of need for psychological support for parents in the first weeks together. The results of the first part of the research are being developed. We plan to continue the research in the coming years. (Agnieszka Ptak, Wroclaw Poland)

Na een wandeling langs hotels en bedrijven kom je bij Fedasil Machelen uit. Uit niets blijkt dat er hier in een oud hotelcomplex meer dan 300 mensen samenleven. Het open opvangcentrum biedt verzoekers om internationale bescherming onderdak, voeding, medische en sociale begeleiding tijdens hun verzoek om internationale bescherming. De inkomhal met de 24u/7d receptie vormt nog steeds het kloppend hart van het complex. Met een walkietalkie en een ‘loper’ op zak krijg ik meteen een rondleiding door de 2 vleugels van het centrum. Door stormschade zijn er momenteel grote delen op de 1ste verdieping afgesloten waardoor het naar leefruimtes toe wat behelpen is, maar de capaciteit kon behouden blijven.

In de gangen ontmoet ik de eerste bewoners met een grote glimlach op het gezicht. In het centrum wonen mensen met heel diverse profielen: van niet-begeleide minderjarige over alleenstaanden tot gezinnen met kinderen. Mijn eerste dag in Fedasil Machelen was meteen een memorabele dag. Door een uitzonderlijk geval van agressie tegen het personeel werd er namelijk iemand noodgedwongen noodgedwongen uit het centrum gezet.

De rest van de week krijg ik de kans om met de gepassioneerde sociale assistenten, begeleiders, logisitiekers etc. het wel en wee in het centrum te degusteren. Samen met nieuwe bewoners ontdek ik ook de kamers, de refter, shop, wasplaats, vestiaire en de tuinen te met al zijn regeltjes om het geheel werkbaar te houden.

Het mooiste moment was denk ik de yogales op woensdag. Na een namiddagje ronselen, uitnodigen, reminderen en nog eens heruitnodigen werd de vergaderzaal met wat matjes en een projector omgetoverd tot een oase van rust, waar enkele ‘ladies’ zich even echt konden overgeven aan ‘het moment’. Na een heel eenvoudig filmpje van yoga met Adriene verlieten ze zichtbaar wat lichter weer de zaal verlieten.

Ik onthoud aan mijn eerste week vooral dat je met wat goede wil, een luisterend oor, een glimlach en wat gezond verstand echt een wereld van verschil kan maken!

As  international coordinator of our TAPAS ngo, I am proud to announce that our secretary Cristina de Diego presented her Phd research project on 10^th of December at the St. Jorge university of Zaragoza Spain.

Subject: Estilo de vida de las personas supervivientes de un ictus : actividad fisica y  ocupaciòn de la vida cotidiana.

Cristina started up with me and her colleague Patricia Jovelar, our president, the ngo in Zaragoza . She was involved in different projects of TAPAS ngo. So was she doing volunteer work at Jana Pawla 2 institute in Wroclaw Jaszkotle Poland. She was part of the course that TAPAS ngo was giving at UPOLI university in Esteli Nicargua. Together with other TAPAS ngo board members she participated actively in different courses and congresses that we organised in Zaragoza, Brussels, Poland, Nicaragua.

Thanks also Cristina for mentioning me in your dissertation as inspirator and motivator to go on with developing more knowledge and experience in this wonderful discipline of Occupational Therapy and rehabilitation.

We hope she will be able to assist us in the further TAPAS ngo development.

Como coordinadora internacional de nuestra ONG TAPAS, me enorgullece anunciar que nuestra secretaria, Cristina de Diego, presentó su proyecto de investigación doctoral el pasado 10 de diciembre en la Universidad San Jorge de Zaragoza, España.

Tema: Estilo de vida de las personas supervivientes de un ictus : actividad física y ocupaciòn de la vida cotidiana.

Cristina se puso en marcha conmigo y con su compañera Patricia Jovelar, nuestra presidenta, la ONG en Zaragoza. Estuvo involucrada en diferentes proyectos de la ONG TAPAS.

También lo hizo haciendo como voluntaria en el instituto Jana Pawla 2 en Wroclaw, Jaszkotle, Polonia. Formó parte del curso que la ONG TAPAS dictaba en la universidad UPOLI en Estelí, Nicaragua. Junto con otros miembros de la junta directiva de TAPAS participó activamente en diferentes cursos y congresos que organizamos en Zaragoza, Bruselas, Polonia, Nicaragua.

Gracias también Cristina por mencionarme en tu tesis como inspiradora y motivadora para seguir desarrollando más conocimientos y experiencia en esta maravillosa disciplina de la Terapia Ocupacional y la rehabilitación.

Esperamos que ella pueda ayudarnos en el desarrollo futuro de las ONG TAPAS. Felicidades dr. Cristina de Diego.

Als internationaal coördinator van onze TAPAS ngo ben ik trots om aan te kondigen dat onze secretaris Cristina de Diego op 10 december haar PhD-onderzoeksproject heeft gepresenteerd aan de St. Jorge universiteit van Zaragoza, Spanje.

Betreft: Levensstijl van overlevenden van een beroerte: fysieke activiteit en activiteit van het dagelijks leven.

Cristina startte samen met mij en haar collega Patricia Jovelar, onze voorzitster, de ngo in Zaragoza op. Ze was betrokken bij verschillende projecten van TAPAS ngo. Zo deed ze vrijwilligerswerk bij het Jana Pawla 2 instituut in Wroclaw, Jaszkotle, Polen. Ze maakte deel uit van de cursus die TAPAS ngo gaf aan de UPOLI-universiteit in Esteli Nicargua. Samen met andere bestuursleden van TAPAS nam ze actief deel aan verschillende cursussen en congressen die we organiseerden in Zaragoza, Brussel, Polen, Nicaragua.

Dank ook Cristina voor het vernoemen van mij in jou proefschrift als inspirator en motivator om door te gaan met het ontwikkelen van meer kennis en ervaring in dit prachtige vakgebied van ergotherapie en revalidatie.

We hopen dat zij ons kan helpen bij de verdere ontwikkeling van TAPAS ngo.

Op 8 februari 2025 ontvangt TAPAS ngo en opleiding ergotherapie van Odisee Hogeschool Brussel Nellie Tembo. www.therapy-tapas.org

Nellie is directeur , stichter en bezieler van het Caleb centrum voor autistische kinderen te Kabwe in Zambia.   www.calebcenterforchildrenwithautism.org

Het Caleb centrum is het eerste en zowat het enige centrum voor autistische kinderen in Zambia.

We mochten reeds tweemaal van dichtbij kennis maken met het centrum en de enthousiaste medewerkers ervan.

We hadden ook de kans reeds een 4 tal studenten ergotherapie of vrijwilligers naar het centrum te sturen om er een stage te doen of het team te versterken daar (sinds 2022 tot op heden). Hopelijk kunnen we hier nog vele jaren mee doorgaan.

Graag willen we dan ook Nellie de kans geven hier bij ons haar ervaring te delen aan de opleiding ergotherapie Odisee , maar ook heel wat voor haar inspirerende bezoeken aan te bieden hier in Vlaanderen.

Sinds een aantal jaren was TAPAS ngo in staat wat financiële steun te bieden aan het Caleb centrum en dit dankzij het vastenproject van basisschool “De Twijg” uit Wijgmaal.

Ook enkele persoonlijke giften van vrienden stelden ons in staat donaties persoonlijk te overhandigen  zodat niks daarvan bleef hangen aan bvb onnodige taksen of administratiekosten. Op die manier konden de donaties volledig en direkt worden gebruikt om het initiatief verder uit te bouwen.

Graag  wil ik nu opnieuw een oproep lanceren om dit project te ondersteunen. We garanderen een goede afhandeling hiervan tijdens het verblijf van Nellie Tembo hier in België. Nellie zal logeren bij me thuis in Wilsele, en dit van 8 februari tot en met 24 februari. Ikzelf zal ervoor zorgen dat ze overal gebracht wordt waar nodig om van dit bezoek voor haar een unieke ervaring te maken. Daarvoor ben ik ook nog op zoek naar ‘good practice’ initiatieven rond autistische kinderen hier in Vlaanderen die ons eventueel zouden kunnen ontvangen.

Glad to have the visit of our Contactperson in Cochabamba Bolivia Celia Ferrufinno. TAPAS association was happy to offer her the Sponsored amount of 1000 euro, thanks to the efforts of the children of De Twijg Wijgmaal. We hope our project in Tiquipaya Cochabamba Bolivia can use it for the benefiet of their primary school children. Celia enjoyed the visit to the school De Twijg in Wijgmaal Leuven.

Blij met het bezoek van onze contactpersoon in Cochabamba, Bolivia, Celia Ferrufinno. De ngo TAPAS bood haar graag het gesponsorde bedrag van 1000 euro aan, dankzij de inzet van de kinderen van De Twijg Wijgmaal. We hopen dat ons project in Tiquipaya Cochabamba, Bolivia het kan gebruiken voor het welzijn van hun basisschoolkinderen. Celia genoot van het bezoek aan de school De Twijg in Wijgmaal Leuven.

Op vrijdag 27 september hadden we dan opnieuw onze TAPAS-Odisee introductienamiddag voor studenten ergotherapie die dit academiejaar stage gaan lopen onder onze begeleiding in het asielcentrum van Machelen en het dak- en thuislozendagcentrum Doucheflux te Anderlecht. In beide centra wordt ook een bachelorproof gemaakt door de studenten.

Leuk was ook dat we oud studente Lara op bezoek kregen. Lara deed destijds haar stage in Fedasil Zaventem en kwam ons haar verhaal brengen. Lara werkt ondertussen al drie jaar in fedasil Klein Kasteeltje te Brussel.

On Friday 27 September, we again had our TAPAS-Odisee introduction afternoon for occupational therapy students who will be doing an internship under our supervision this academic year in the asylum centre of Machelen and the homeless day centre Doucheflux in Anderlecht. In both centres, a bachelor’s proof is also made by the students.

It was also nice that we got a visit from former student Lara. Lara was doing her internship at Fedasil Zaventem at the time and came to tell us her story. Lara has been working at fedasil Petit-Château in Brussels for three years now.

 

 

TAPAS activities academiejaar 2023-2024 (english version below)

Op het eind van dit academiejaar willen we nog even meegeven dat onze TAPAS ngo weer heel wat activiteiten op zijn actief had.

Zo hadden we Michelle (zie vorige post) en Michiel die stage liepen in Fedasil Machelen.

Kamal en Lea deden dat op hun beurt in het Fedasil centrum  Klein Kasteeltje te Brussel.

Renke en Aki gingen op buitenlandse stage met TAPAS naar Communidad Educativa in Tiquipaya Bolivië.

Hélène, een student onderwijs deed stage in Escuela Cristal , Esteli, Nicaragua.

Luc mocht tijdens het Paasverlof weer eens op wekbezoek naar Zambia.  Samen met Sarah en Wim, twee onderwijzers pur sang, bezochten ze en werkten enkele dagen mee in het Caleb Center for Austistic Children te Kabwe . Ook mochten ze een werkbezoek afleggen aan de Nkruma University daar en deden mee aan een studiedag in het schooltje “Hope of Glory” in Kabwe.

Deze projecten in Zambia staan hoog aangeschreven bij TAPAS en we zijn dan ook steeds op zoek naar studenten of vrijwilligers die er een tijdje willen meewerken of stage lopen. Uiteraard vergeten we ook niet ons project in Bolivë en projecten in Esteli  Nicaragua.

We begeleidden vanuit TAPAS ook dit jaar weer een Bachelor Proof : “Actief op Achtien, Activeringstool voor jonge verzoekers tot Internationale Bescherming. “ van Michelle Vanderveeren.

TAPAS activities academic year 2023-2024

At the end of this academic year, we would like to mention that our TAPAS NGO had a lot of activities on its active side.

For example, we had Michelle (see previous post) and Michiel who did an internship at Fedasil Machelen.

Kamal and Lea did this in turn at the Fedasil centre Petit-Château in Brussels.

Renke and Aki went on an internship abroad with TAPAS to Communidad Educativa in Tiquipaya Bolivia.

Hélène, a  student in Teaching did an internship in Escuela Cristal, Esteli, Nicaragua.

Luc was allowed to go on a work visit to Zambia during the Easter holidays. Together with Sarah and Wim, two teachers pur sang, they visited and worked for a few days at the Caleb Center for Austistic Children in Kabwe. They were also allowed to pay a working visit to the Nkruma University there and participated in a study day in the school “Hope of Glory” in Kabwe.

These projects in Zambia are highly regarded by TAPAS and we are always looking for students or volunteers who want to work or do an internship there for a while. Of course, we don’t forget our project in Bolivia and projects in Esteli Nicaragua.

Also this year we supervised a Bachelor Proof from TAPAS: “Active on Achtien, Activation tool for young applicants for International Protection. ” by Michelle Vanderveeren.

Haar verhaal:

Ik werk nauw samen met de buurtwerkers, de verantwoordelijke voor de scholenwerking en opleiding en het teamlid dat instaat voor de activering van de jongeren van 18 tot 21 jaar. In het kader van mijn Bachelorproef ontwikkel ik een tool om het interdisciplinaire activeringstraject van jonge asielzoekers in opvangcentra te ondersteunen. Ik kwam tijdens mijn eerste stageweek al in contact met personen met een psychosociale kwetsbaarheid die geconfronteerd worden met onder andere occupational injustice en occupational deprivation. De bewoners ervaren en formuleren dus veel noden. Het feit dat er in Fedasil geen ergotherapeuten werken, vormt voor mij een uitdaging. Het is dus belangrijk om mijn weken goed te structureren, accenten te leggen en op tijd mijn grenzen aan te voelen. De komende weken zal het mijn doel zijn om in samenspraak met het team de meest ergotherapeutisch relevante hulpvragen te selecteren en deze te koppelen aan mijn eigen talenten en competenties als ergo in wording. Ik neem jullie graag mee doorheen dit proces. Tot snel!

PS: Tijdens het pendelen met de trein lees ik het boek ‘De knikkers van Qadir – Het waargebeurde verhaal van een man op de vlucht’. Echt een aanrader!

 

Gedurende mijn stage in Fedasil Machelen heb ik de eer om samen met drie enthousiaste vrijwilligsters vorm te geven aan ‘De Vrouwenclub’. Op tweewekelijkse basis komen de vrouwen die verblijven in het opvangcentrum samen voor verschillende laagdrempelige activiteiten, zoals juwelen maken, intercultureel koken, spelletjes spelen… En op vrijdag 8 maart: een verrassingsuitstap voor *Wereldvrouwendag*!

De deelneemsters krijgen de kans om in een informele context hun Nederlands te oefenen, hun sociaal netwerk uit te breiden, hun talenten in te zetten en zo te genieten van een betekenisvolle dagbesteding. Mijn ergotherapeutisch relevante to do: kwetsbare alleenstaande moeders samen met hun kinderen activeren richting participatie aan een weekendje weg tijdens de paasvakantie.

 Sponsoring projects:

We were able again to offer some sponsor money thanks also to Primary school “De Twijg” Wijgmaal Belgium to three of our projects; The project in Tiquipaya Bolivia (€1000), Iniciativo Colibri Esteli Nicaragua (€1000) and Caleb center for autistic children Kabwe Zambia (€1500). We delivered  the amount for Caleb Center Kabwe Zambia during our prospection visit in July 2023 (Reninka, Luc)

At the end of this year (2023), we as a TAPAS NGO were involved in a donation of 5000 euros to our project “Caleb Center Kabwe Zambia”. Thanks to the intervention of Lotte Vandamme who was looking for an official NGO that could be the intermediary for a transaction of the money left over by the closure of the Oxfam NGO of Waasmunster. TAPAS paid the transaction costs (88.8 euros). (Lotte, Luc)

• Prospection visit to Caleb Center Kabwe Zambia (Reninka, Luc)
• During our stay in Zambia we had the opportunity to visit Nkrumah University dpt special Education, Glory of Hope school Kabwe, diversity of primary schools in Kabwe: Kwasha primary school,Neem Tree school special unit, Lukanga primary school special unit.

In Lusaka we had the opportunity to visit Bauleni special Needs projects, Zamise institute of special education, Apters Zambia Lusaka workshop for adapted furniture , The BEIT Cure Hospital, University Apex Medical Lusaka. (Reninka, Luc)

• Breaking news: in april 2024 we are going back to Caleb center Kabwe Zambia with a delegation of 3 persons. (Wim, Sarah, Luc)
