Happy to have finished a tour of guestlectures about “Occupational therapy in non traditional workfields: OT in an asylum center”

Thanks to all the OT departments of diverse universities of applied sciences and universities who invited us to bring this item to their students.

It was a great pleasure for us.

We hope to bring that again next academic year.

Blij op het einde van onze gastlessen-toer bij diverse Vlaamse opleidingen ergotherapie (Bsc en Msc). We willen vooral danken omdat ze deze gelegenheid hebben georganiseerd. Hopelijk kunnen we dat volgend academiejaar herhalen.

We look back at a successful TAPAS conference that took place last Tuesday at Odisee Brussels.

We received Theo Bogeas from Greece, who talked about his interesting experience from refugee camps and connected this with our own Brussels context, thanks to Gert Bouquiaux enthusiastic key note speech.

In the afternoon students and participants enjoyed several workshops facilitated by a professional multidisciplinary team from Belgium, Poland and Spain, who shared a lot of experience from their field.

We learned a lot about the latest social and politic development in the OT world!

We zijn onze laatste week in Jaszkotle van start gegaan!

Het was al een zeer intensieve stage waar we veel zelf moesten ontdekken en zelfstandig konden werken met onze kindjes. We geven elke dag therapie aan hen en daarnaast geven we ook veel aandacht en spelen we met hen. Ze herkennen onze stem al en we ontdekten wat ze leuk vinden om te doen.

Astrid werkt met haar volgkindje tijdens de individuele therapie aan de zitbalans. En Kyana werkt bij haar volgkindje aan de hoofdbalans. We hebben samen nog een volgkindje waar we werken aan het zelfstandig stappen en concentratie. Daarnaast passen we bij onze drie kindjes shantala- massage toe en geven we eettraining. Onze individuele therapiën lopen volgens de Bobath basisprincipes die Agnieszka ons heeft toegelicht.

Wanneer we onze volgkindjes even laten uitrusten houden we onze bezig met de oudere kinderen. Hiermee ontdekten we de sensorische intergratie kamer waar veel te beleven valt voor de kinderen. Veel kinderen met het FAS syndroom en Down syndroom ervaren hier stimulatie door de vele prikkels die zij ontvangen. Daarnaast deden we ook nog fijne motoriek met enkele kinderen door middelen leuke knutselactiviteiten.

Polen is een mooi land waar veel te ontdekken is. Er valt wel altijd iets te doen. Zeker de moeite waard om te bezoeken!

Ergostudenten Lotte, Alexia, Jana, Evelyne verzorgen elke dinsdagnamiddag activiteiten voor de kinderen van het asielcentrum “het klein kasteeltje” te Brussel. Vanuit Tapas doen we de begeleiding en therapeutische en pedagogische duiding. Deze nammidag heel wat enthousiaste kinderen.

OT students Lotte, Alexia, Jana and Evelyne of Odisee university of applied sciences are giving activities for the children of “Het Klein Kasteeltje”, assylum center in Brussels. . TAPAS association is happy to collaborate with them and give more background and support to this nice initiative. We could see a lot of enthousiastic children today.

Jaszkotle. 

Een klein dorpje dat voor de meeste mensen niet veel zegt, maar voor vele studenten van de bacheloropleiding ergotherapie een speciaal plaatsje in hun hart heeft gekregen. Dit is ook het geval bij mij. Vorig jaar trok ik voor 8 weken naar Polen om aan de slag te gaan als stagiair in het John Paul II Health Care house for Children en werkte daar ook mijn bachelorproef uit: een box met spelmateriaal om zo de kinderen te stimuleren in hun ontwikkeling. 

Last year Yentl had the chance to do 8 weeks of internship with TAPAS Association in John Paul 2 health care house Jaszkotle Poland.  

Dit jaar besloot ik om terug te keren naar Jaszkotle om te kijken hoe de kinderen zijn geëvolueerd en nog wat meer ervaring op te doen als net afgestudeerde ergotherapeut. Tijdens mijn verblijf werkte ik met de kindjes vooral om hun grof- en fijn motorische vaardigheden aan te sterken alsook hen sensorisch te stimuleren om spelsituaties op te zoeken. Daarbij werkte ik nauw samen met de fysiotherapeuten daar aanwezig. 

She was glad to go back and worked again with the children of the institute. 

Naast het werken in het centrum, ontdekte ik (opnieuw) wat een mooi land polen wel niet is. Polen is niet het bekendste vakantieland, maar dat is zeker niet terecht. Naast de hoofdstad Warschau, bevat Polen nog enkele parels van steden als Wroclaw, Poznan en Krakau die op makkelijke reisafstand liggen van Jaszkotle en zeker ook een verrijking waren aan mijn bezoek aan Polen. Kortom een topervaring.

And of course it was an opportunity to visit some nice cities in Poland.
