New project in Argentina

We are proud to announce you a new TAPAS project in Argentina.
New International TAPAS Project:

Cotolengo de Don Orione, Claypole (Argentina)

Don Luis Orione was a priest who dedicated his life to serving the poorest and most humble. This conviction led him to found the Little Work of Divine Providence (1903). In 1935 he founded “El Pequeño Cotolengo de Don Orione” in Claypole (Argentina).
Their Mission today is: According to the current problems, they spend part of their life to children and adolescents, especially those who are disadvantaged, marginalized, and in extreme poverty.- Work with people who fail to meet their basic needs and are victims of hunger, poor health and education, lack of family and affection, the inability to project towards a decent future.
How do they work the Cotolengo? Home to people with multiple disabilities, physical and mental, its therapeutic and educational setting is complex and must be made through interdisciplinary teams (Nurses, Psychiatrist, 3 Physiotherapists, 3 Occupational Therapists, 1 Speech therapist, 3 Physical Education teachers, 2 Psychologists and Special education teaches), where the task of each (religious, professional, assistants, volunteers) put together for a better assisted service and, where possible, their family, when it exists.
Basically, the tasks for the disabled (more than 400 residents!!), are to assist and care for, rehabilitate, educate and promote, whenever necessary in a family atmosphere.

There is lot to do to improve the quality of life for all people living in the Cotolengo … they are waiting for you!

BuSO Terbank in Jaszkotle

On Saturday march 27 2010 we had our second TAPAS conference in HUB campus Terranova Brussels. About 60 attendants could listen to the informative presentations in the morning and follow two of the six  practical workshops given in the afternoon. All of them were very satisfied about the organisation and the contents of the conference.
We also had the chance to present a brandnew project in Argentina. More about that in a next message.
TAPAS boarder has already an option for the 3rd conference: Malaga – Spain.
Come and see this webblog on a regular base to find more information about that and other TAPAS projects.

TAPAS conference

For the second time The TAPAS association (Therapy for All Patients in All Situations)  organises a conference.
Last conference was in november 2008 in Zaragoza (Spain)
TAPAS is an international project of the department  Ergotherapie  HUB-EHSAL Brussel. Now  it is an international associatie of proactieve therapists that focus on patients who for one or another reason have to miss therapy.
TAPAS  organizes and coordinates an organisation of volunteers and OT  or PT students. They are providing therapy on location.  Our webblog: www.tapas.whereareyou.net
We will set the spots on our projects of today. Practical workshops will be given in the afternoonprogramm. In that way we hope to inspire therapists an students to join the TAPAS association, and work together with us.
Dutch spoken presentations will be translated or provided with  handouts in the Englisch language.
Two persons from the organizational border can help to translate the main ideas of the presentations into Spanish.

New TAPAS project

Dear TAPAS friends,

I was in A Coruna (Spain) last week and met a OT who wanted to work with us by offering a new project in Burkina Fasso (West Africa).
Inda (Responsible OT) is an OT working for an NGO in Burkina Fasso. She is running a daycare center for mental health patients. we are happy to have this opportunity. I hope we can send a lot of interested OT and PT students very soon there.
The programm of the 2nd conference of TAPAS in Brussels is almost ok. You will find more news about that in a few days.

Grtz
